Has anyone worked with african padauk ? I'd like to know what your experience is with gluing, finishing, routering, etc..
How does the wood look after a couple of years in the sun (indoor furniture) ?
Thanks.
Woody.

I am thinking of using some Cocobolo in a project. I read Padauk has high natural oils like Cocobolo so you need to clean up the surfaces to be glued with alcohol or naptha.
I'll be following this thread if anyone has any comments on working with Cocobolo they would be also appreciated.

Dunno if this counts, Woody, since it has not been long enough to say how well the colour will stand up to time. I don't believe I took any special precautions before gluing, other than gluing immediately after milling the wood. I used polyurethane glue and don't see any signs of delamination.
Good Luck!

I've only used it once and didn't have to glue it son I can't comment on that. All I can say is that it's HARD. It produces a lot of fine dust that covers every surface with a stuning color (have to see it to beleive it). A dust mask is highly recommended specially if you plan to resaw it.

its as hard as granite. be caredul with the acetone or alcohol maybe try some on some scrap to see if it affects the colour. The dust from this wood has been known to make some people very sick. Whoever sent the pic nice job it looked great.
