I finally got around to putting some handles on some mortise chisels that I've picked up over the last couple of years. One of them had a split handle on it, the other two were unhandled. Handles made from Bubinga.

I also picked up a set of Japanes mortise chisels from that addictive little auction site. Not sure of their lineage, but the steel is very nice. Takes and holds a good edge through some pretty tough woods.

Nice job on the handles Steve.
I know you don,t know much about the Japanese chisels, but... Do you think they are HSS? They look nice.

Chisel buying sure is a addictive little hobby. Those Japanese chisels are they the ones that are shipped from Japan? Just curious what shipping from there would add up to. Seems there's always quite a few on e-bay.

These actually came from a fellow in the Netherlands who was disbursing his deceased BIL's personal effects. The BIL had fairly expensive taste in tools, lots of LN stuff etc, but the descriptions were fairly sparse. I picked up a set of misc items that included two Auriou rasps, worth about $140 new, for $27. Problem was they weren't described properly, so you take a bit of a chance on it. I think they might be these ones from Joel
