I recently purchased a Delta DJ 20 jointer. Aside from the cutter head bearings needing replacement right out of the box, the other thing I don,t like is the placement of the power switch and the fact that Delta cheaped out and did'nt use a magnetic switch, even King puts a magnetic switch on their clone.
I'm going to move the switch to a location at the back, the same as the Steel City & Grizzly & it will be a magnet one.
Now my question, anyone know where I can get the type that General specs for their machines? I like the ones with a rotory stop button lock but I can't seem to find them anywhere.
Thanks,
James

I'll start by stating the obvious. If General uses the mag switch on their machine you could by it from them. Otherwise check with local electrical supply houses like Electrozad. Warning, these things aren't cheap. It might have been easier to buy the General machine from the start. Also BB has one on their site I beleive. Let us know what turns out to be the best solution.

What's wrong with the existing switch apart from the location?

House of Tools has some for reasonable prices. I also changed mine on my DJ20. I put it in the front though since the wire was a bit short for a back mount. We have a lot of power failures and a magnetic switch adds some safety case you forget to turn it of in those situations.

The main reason is safety & if I'm going to the effort of relocating the switch to a more user friendly location then I might as well have it the way I want it.

Fair enough, just be sure you give it the bump test after you install it. Some mag switches have had the contacts close enough that they can pull in if accidently given a sharp bump. (The seal contact makes and turns the switch turned on - this is not a common problem.)
