Wow, asking about metal on a woodworking forum(lol).I'm looking for a place in the Hamilton/Niagara area where I can buy small quantities of sheet metal and thin rod with out paying the Canadian Tire prices. Does anyone know of where I might go about buying some small quantities? TIA.

Richard; we have 2 places in the Ajax/Pick & Whitby area; Metal Supermarket in Whitby & Ability Metals in Ajax/Pick.

I see an ad in the Yellow pages for Metal Supermarkets having 10 stores in the GTA 1-866-867-9344 or <www.metalsupermarkets.com>.

Metal Supermarkets, they have a location in Hamilton. I am not sure where they are now as the last time I was in, they had a sign that said they were moving. They are great to deal with and will sell in small or large quantities. Check out the link that Mack put up.

For sheet metal try a local HVAC fabricator, they often have a pile of odd pieces they will sell you cheap. Industrial suppliers carry threaded rod and drill rod. Also try a welding fabricator. There is a scrapyard in Allanburg I often find neat stuff in.

Metal Supermarket (http://data.gointranet.com/cgi-bin/unitloc/metal/locator.cgi?cpage=main.html&cu=hamilton&cl=9) has moved (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=735+South+Service+Rd.,+(Hamilton)+Stoney+Creek,+ ON&ie=UTF8&om=0&z=13&ll=43.232322,-79.712505&spn=0.042524,0.132179&iwloc=addr) and they're now a little closer to you.
You should be able to get everything you need there.

Richard, If your needs were a little bigger Beach Rd. Steel in Hamilton is 1/2 the price of Metal Supermarket! Nice people to deal with, more industrial but just walk in but can not cut sheet on the spot.
Cheers, Mark
