Delta 18" scroll saw - 40-601...anyone have one?

I am posting this for a friend that is looking at a Delta 40-601 electronic variable speed scroll saw.

I've tried to do a bit of internet research on it, but haven't found a lot. I know that Delta no longer makes this model nor do they make one with an electronic speed control.

Basically the information he is looking for is whether there are reliability issues with the speed control, whether parts are available and if it's a good investment.

The one pictured here is in excellent condition, the EVSC works and is advertised for $350. I believe it was manufactured in 1988.

For that price you can find a get machine. They may be only 16", but it would be much newer. This may be a great saw though, so don't let me influence that.
