Hi All,
I am looking to find old barn wood. Not sure if there are places that sell it, or you have to approach farmers that have dilapidated barns. To see if they want to have it dismantled. Not looking for much. Wanting to build an outhouse ( not functional) for my wifes garden. That will have that old look as soon as it is made. She has been bugging me for a while now. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Marty
PS. Willing to drive several hour if need be.

Come to Fort Wayne, In. Got barnwood.........Will build you outhouse, last summer built 16 for customers.
Prices varied from $165 to $235. depending on features.
(hired my grandson to help me, His name is not "Steve":D :D :D )
Got two built already this spring.
The smallest is 24x24, the biggest I built was 48x48 for a playhouse.
Here is the game plan for you......
Put ad in Craigs for "free wood"
I got a trailer load of cedar (free) 1" thick by 7 1/2 long by 11" wide. Just for taken it down out of 14 x 14 room.
Or look in papers, I found my barnwood in what is called peddlers post. The man I bought my barnwood from takes them down and pull the nails. I paid $1.25 BF
Bought a 1851 barn that was added on 3 times from him. Ended up with 3/4 of that barn.
Yes approach people, you can find them that way too.
Starting Monday going to build outhouse 24x36 (Cedar)
Why mine are so popular is that make them like like the real thing on the inside.
Built a sitting place with a removable lid that you can store bird seed, etc. Also the whole thing that holds the removable lid is hinge so it acts like a trunk lid for full access.
Have made removeable shelfs on the outside.
One side with flower pots recessed in
What I did was take a 2x4 and rip 45 degree then mounted one half to the wall, the other half to the shelf, you get the idea (I hope)
AS YOU CAN SEE IN MY PICS USED CHAIN FOR SHELVES, got away from that and went with the 45 degree idea works out better and looks neater.
If you are looking for design ideas, just type in outhouses you will be there all day.
Also type in outhouses jokes, outhouse history etc.
Have included this with my outhouses. Here is my website of just a few I built before I had a camera.

I know of a few farmers who are ripping off their old barnboards, replacing them with new ones, and selling the old ones for a profit. They get quite a kick out of that.
