I am building an entertainment unit and am thinking of using Lee Valley's concealed door slides as shown on page 77 of the 2001/2002 hardware cat. I think I need item B but not sure whether I should order 16" or 18". The doors are 17"w by 37"hi and the cabinet is 24" deep. Has anyone had experience with these slides? Would appreciate any advice you may have. Regards Dave McClellan

I used them on an armoire several years ago. Had to return them as they where of poor design at that time, couldn't get them to work right. I picked up a set at a hardware dealer that cost the same but was of a better design. Check with your local lumber yard, they can usually order hardware from one their distributers.

Hi Dave,
I built an entertainment centre a few years ago and used the LV slides with good results. My cabinet is 24" deep as yours is; my doors are 16" wide each, and about the same length as yours.
I found that I needed the 20" slides to accomodate the 3-5/8" less travel than the length of the slides. I made the follower bars from red oak (the same as the cabinet).
Hope this helps,
Ben.

Hi Dave
Ive made several entertainment centres with pocket doors.
The best Ive used are anti-racking slides by accuride. A heavy door tends to slide uneven and the anti-racking prevents this. The hinges also make a difference and are rated for the thickness of the door. They are available through Richilieu hardware
Hafela, and Hettick hardware to name a few.
I dont normally pay much attention to instructions but in this case I would. If you are going to put a handle on the door you dont need the extra throw of the slide.
