tung oil on pine as a finish

Hi! Is it practical to apply 2 coats of tung oil after staining a new buffet/hutch made of pine?Is all that work (the hand rub) will be worth? Or just go with water base finish more durable?Thanks Dan.

Hi Dan, have used a lot of pine over the last 3yrs and because it is so soft (using White Pine) have never used anything but a poly finish. Interior poly or a spar.

Dan, I just finished a portable display booth for a local potter most of it was out of pine. I used two coats of tung oil to pop the grain and finished this after a couple of days with two coat of sprayed outdoor water based varathane. The grain poped nicely and they are quite happy with the colour. Cheers, Mike
