I did the final touches on my bathroom reno today....
This was a total gut job on the main floor bath in my 1950's bungelo.
Vanity and built-in medicine cabinet are natural maple with Lee Valley long stainless steel pulls.
Counter top and tile tub surround are a type of granite called "sunset gold"
Tub is a arcrylic "peanut" soaker and fixtures are Moen...
One piece American standard "Champion" toilet.....
I removed a window that was in the shower area and replaced it with a 30x30" skylight. The bathroom fan is conveniently tucked away in the skylight shaft and rope lighting looks great at night and helps navigating that late night pee.
Sorry for the poor pictures, the room is only 5 x 9...

Looks very nice. How wide is the vanity? How wide are the drawers and how many drawers did you put in the vanity? We need to finish a basement bathroom and I like the look of that vanity.

The vanity is 30" wide...very plain 36" would have fit, but would not have left much room on either side of the toilet... Drawers are about 10" wide. You can buy one just like it for about $250 at the big box stores or for about $225 you can build your own.... The medicine cabinet was a little more custom.. It is about 5" deep with adjustable shelves and I made it as wide and tall as possible considering the mechanical in the wall.

The phone is there in case it rings while we are bathing the baby.

So if you were doing anything else in the bathroom and it rang, you would not answer it...yeah right!
And I'm sure that no book has ever visited the bathroom either eh!
Personally, I don't like rope lighting, it reminds me of 1980's movie theatres and disco's, but everything else looks great and nice job. Congratulations!

Next time Kevin, tell me what you really think!
I think rope light is really cool when you dont actually see the rope itself, but rather just the cast light...
I agree that in many applications such as winding the rope light around a railing, it looks like crap.
I plan on doing a crown moulding in my daughters room down 4" from the ceiling and having rope light hidden inside, that way all you will see is a nice soft glow on the ceiling...

Even hidden, I find it has a yellowish tinge to it that I personnally do not like. If the rope is too close to where it is reflecting off that is viewable I don't like the staggered light pattern it gives off either.
I hope the rope you used is not leftover from years ago. I'm not certain of the exact details, but I believe there was some rope widely sold on the market that was hazardous years ago (3-4 years ago +).
I want to also do what you described, (4 inches away behind moulding) and I have looked at mini fluorescent tubing (the super skinny tubes) in lieu of rope lighting, bur it is a lot more expensive to do it that way, but it would give off a more whiter light.

I'll be showing those pictures to my wife. Our basement bathroom was roughed in and drywalled/cement board and since left to sit during the resot of the basement reno and we are now talking about getting back around to finishing it. We initially were debating wood choices for the cabinet but never decided on anything.
Thanks.

Brent, This is the bathroom I did in the basement. Once this one was finished we gutted the upstairs. The vanity is pretty much the same only this one is 36" wide.
Also, I installed a 48" arcrillic shower stall rather than a tub and to be honest, this is where I get clean... I much prefer the shower over a big tub.

Chris, Nice job! I am shielding the computer from my SWMBO so I will not have to finish doing the work on our bathroom. I am convinced small bathroom take more time than bigger ones. You have done a nice job of getting everything in.
All ready for your new baby now???
Cheers, Mark

Not sure if you can ever be read for this..... I have 3 closit organizers to make, a toy box and cabinetry for the laundry room. Most of which will have to take place after she is born.
The new baby is coming Tuesday via "c" section. She is huge. At 8 months the ultrasound said about 9lbs so they are taking her out a couple weeks earily.

Chris, nice job on both of the bathrooms. I love granite but my wife is not crazy about it.
When I reno'd our bathroom several years ago I installed oak crown molding about 6" down from the ceiling with the intention of installing rope lighting in it. However, I never got around to finishing it, mostly because I couldn't put the rope on the same circuit as the bathroom light and I didn't have any available slots in the panel. Now that the panel is going to be upgraded and I have to rip out the Jacuzzi tub I put in during the last reno, I'll get to put in the rope lighting. I placed some up there connected with an extension cord and my wife and I liked the look of it.
And early congrats on the new soon-to-be-addition to the family. That's number two isn't it? Is it a boy or a girl or did you not want to know? I bet you don't get much shop time for the next little while!
Edit: Oops, just noticed it's a girl.

Chris, nice job on the bathrooms. I am in the process of renoing the laundry room. I just need to finish the built in pantry and a table...than comes the bathrooms and eventually the kitchen. I have never worked with granite but how did you connect the granite top to the cabinet and the the sink to the granite top?? ....adhesive?

Gravity and a bit of caulk.... any kind will do. I wouldnt use construction adhesive or anything really strong.

Hi Chris
Real nice job on the bathroom, I remember my bathroom reno 2 years ago, it's not the same gratification as building furniture but it sure is nice when it's done.
Pre-Congrats on the arrival of your new Baby, that's number 2 isn't?

This is my 9th total bathroom.... Nice bathrooms and kitchens are a must if you want good a re-sale price. My house is small so the bathrooms are rather plain but I dont mind spending a little more and using good quality materials. The Champion toilets are the bomb (ironically, a bomb would not clog them)
Re the baby" Thanks. Yes, she will be our second child and second little girl. Our first just turned 18 months. Having kids is even better than having a well equiped shop!

Chris, is the under mounted sink not sitting on ply with the granite on top of both the ply and the sink?

Ahhhh!!! Two Girls........ That means you'll have a third to try for that boy!!!!!
I was the other way round 2 Boys.... then 5 years later we got our Girl...took some major convincing, wasn't sure I wanted to do the baby thing again. Three great kids though, my oldest is in his last year of high school, time flys.

No, The undermount sink is epoxied to the undersider of the granite. It is there for life....
The method you are speaking of is more commonly used with stainless sinks as the flange is ground so thin so it slips between the ply and granite.

Oh I dunno about that... every morning when I step into my 48x32 shower in our ensuite I am SO glad that I put in the work to replace that tiny old prefab fiberglass unit.
But Chris... *9* bathrooms?? ugh.
