View Full Version : Modifying Patterns
I made these nut bowls yesterday afternoon. The pattern calls for all 3/8" wood. Instead I used alternating 1/4" and 1/2" in different colors and it looks so much better than the original pattern. Sometimes a little imagination goes a long way.I tried to post the pic directly but for some strange reason this one won't post. You can view it by going to my Home Page . It's at the bottom of "Photos 3".

Beautifull as usual!!!
Now a request :)
I would love to see pics of the construction faces of your projects besides the final product.
Since I've never done anything like your clocks and baskets, it would give me a better idea of what's involved.

Alberto: I have not learned how to do multiple photos yet but basically the steps to make anything that I do is quite easy. You just photocopy the original pattern, fasten it to the wood to be sawn with repositionable spray adhesive and then drill a tiny hole in all the areas that will be cut out and feed the blade into one hole at a time and cut the waste out. Then the pieces are assembled with either glue or brads etc. depending on the particular pattern. Most patterns come with instructions and if you're ever stuck for an answer don't be afraid to ask. There's no such thing as a dumb question and we are all willing to help . For a good source of patterns go to my home page and look under "favourite sites".
Happy scrolling and work safely.

Nice work. I can't believe that is your first try.
Jamie; That is my first try at that particular pattern.I have done other similar patterns though so that made this one easy. Here is something that you may not beleive also but it is true. I stack sawed those two so I made them both at the same time. I started at 3 pm yesterday and cut out all the pieces by 4.00 pm. I came in the house and had a LONG coffee break. I went back at 5.00 pm and had both of them completely finished by 6.00pm.I applied the oil finish this morning after letting the glue cure over night.
