I was reading my tool porn yesterday and was checking out both the LV panel clamps and the Canwood panel clamps. Both designs are very clever and as most clever things are, very simple. I was thinking of designing a set of these clamps myself, has any one ever done this and have some tips?

I remember a couple of years back Jim (The Woodchuck Canuck)Barry made a set of wooden ones.
You might check with him.

A couple of weeks back someone posted pics of how to make them and they were deleted because of copyright laws.

Ken in Regina made his own. If you contact him directly it isn't violating any laws.
Cheers Wally!!

Very interesting - so he must have knocked off one of the design very closely.

This could be a an interesting subject, basically everything I have ever made in the shop was copy someone else, with my own spin of course.

I made three. Got the plan from WOOD Magazine Feb 1999. I checked with them just then and they have been sold out of that copy for some time. No intention of re-printing. Contact them, as they have an outside company that provides such copies of individual plans.

Hi,

I made some panel type clamps using 2 hardware store bought straps (steel straps 2 inches wide with 1/4" holes every inch x various lengths), bolts and wedges. One side of the wedge is through bolted between the straps and the other side is pressed between the wood, to be glued and the first clamp. Worked very well. I'll try and post a picture later tonight
