This sculpted rocking chair is built from 2'' quarter-sawn Brazilian Lacewood and Canadian Black Walnut accented with Ebony plugs.

For this chair we laminated walnut to the top and underside of the solid lacewood seat. When hand craved on the top the lacewood gets exposed to reveal it's beautiful and unique grain patterns.

This chair was a special wedding gift, although the chair could have been enough we added a custom foot stool that was engraved with a special wedding message that was on the wedding invitations. Both the stool and underside of the chair have the same engravings.

We then filled the engravings with epoxy, which we colored with ebony saw dust to get black and paduk to make red for the heart.

Features
- Form fitting flexible back braces
- coopered headrest
- exposed Maloof joinery
- hand carved seat, arms and joints
- seating for two

We build all of our furniture by hand one at a time in our 2 man shop, located just west of Toronto, Canada. To view more detailed pictures or to view other work, please visit my Custom wooden rocking chair (http://www.canadianwoodworks.com/) site, I also have a rocking chair blog (http://www.canadianwoodworks.com/blog/) on the site that you can see construction pics of this chair and many others.

What a beautiful set!!! I'm sure they will cherish it forever!! Your joinery is exceptional and the lacewood feature sure make this one a unique piece of furniture.

The chair and foot stool are beautiful.

Do you know what kind of weight the chair can support.

I clock on at over 400lbs and would not want to tackle a project like that without either knowing it is fine as is or planning to beef up where needed?

Paul,

It seems to me that you are interesting in pursuing this woodworking hobby. Perhaps, just a suggestion, you could take a couple of courses, maybe read a book, or apprentice with someone so that someday you will be able to produce a half-decent rocking chair!

I can hardly see the pocket-hole caps!

Now where is that sarcasm off button?

Max

Edit: Forgot to mention, next time, use pine or spruce. Its much cheaper as a starter wood. It seems all the wood you used has warped and twisted!

I don't know exactly how much the double rocking chair would hold, the most weight we have had on it is about 500lbs.

A single rocking chair would hold the weight no problem
