Hi,

I just bought the belt sander sharpening system from LV and it calls for a motor that runs clockwise. I have a fairly new third horse motor that would fit well except its running counterclockwise. I tried swapping the hot and the neutral but that didn't work. Can someone help me with rewiring the motor? I did notice a terminal in the motor that is not connected.

Thanks

Is there any kind of lable on the motor?
If there are only three leads under the cover than it may have to be changed internaly.
you might be further ahead to pick up another motor. One of the best soarces I have found for low HP motors is HVAC companies. They throw them out all the time. If you ask nice they might let you have one for free. (some places will just refuse). Look for one thats reverceable and has a wireing diagram on the casing.
I picked up a 2 speed motor for my furnace for nothin(almost new).

I bought the same sander. Actually for some sharpening - the strop - that is the right direction. To reverse it, look at the 2 screw terminals inside where the power is connected to. Is there a wire running from each terminal to inside the motor? If there is, switch them and it should run in reverse. I also drilled the coverplate and installed a toggle switch on my motor.
Good Luck

you have to crack open the motor, and switch the wires to the start winding. One of the wires of the start winding will go to the centrifical switch. The other one will be spliced to one of the incoming hot wires.
