Well what comes after purchasing a planer, chip & dust collection.
I was planning on buying from LV a cyclone lid with my new Ridgid vacuum. They sell one for 2½" hose to be used with your shop vacuum.
I'm hoping for some comments before I place my order for this cyclone lid. Thanks, Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Just to let you know, I had the clear lid with the 2 1/2" opening for my Craftsman vac. I found that the my vac was too powerful (6 horse, 11 Amp) and it collapsed the recommended rubbermaid trash bin. They recommended I drill and 3/4" relief hole near the out port. But before trying this remedy, I ended up returning it so I don't know if it would have worked fixed the problem.
Hope this helps...

I have that lid and use it with a large blue barrel that a friend of mine got me from Heinz. Works great at separating the chips from the dust of my jointer, tablesaw, router, etc. but I finally bought a 2 HP dust collector because this set up didn't work at all on the Delta 13" planer I bought last year. Guess I'll be cuttin the holes in the cyclone lid a little bigger in the near future.
If you're tired of emptying the shop vac every 10 minutes they perform as advertised. Just make sure the container you use can take the pressure.

I use the LV clear lid, with 3/4" hole drilled as recommended, on a 45 gal steel drum. Power is supplied by a big Craftsman shop vac. The drum is a curse to empty.
I find this setup does not pull the shavings away from the 13" Delta planer as well as I would like, but I wondered if the design of the planer dust pickup was off.
A cyclone is definitely on the short list.

Thanks to all so far for the comments. Like most I'm trying to avoid having to spend on a good DC system. The smaller DC models are not recommended, so you must dish out a minimum to get results. I'm also trying to avoid on spending on something I will not be totally satisfied. The LV cyclcone lid plus the matching trash can plus additional 2½" hose is money I can perhaps put towards a good DC.
Now I can just see the look on wifes face when I tell her that I need a DC to go with the new planer.......

Hi Daniel,
FWIW I'm very happy with the General 1.5 HP DC.
Works on 110. I have a 10' hose on 1 side that I attach to machines 1 at a time to either my planer, jointer, sanding machine, bandsaw, ROS, router. Also use this 10' length to vacumn up the the floor and benches
The other side is connected to my tablesaw.
If you ever want to see it let me know.
