Gentlemen; I will be putting up white cedar trim for windows and patio door. Obviously I want to keep it natural. Do I have to use sanding sealer? Would polyurethane in a satin be ok? If anybody has any ideas for a clear finish I am all ears.
The patio door has been finished with sanding sealer and polyu. Thank you

Polyurethane would be my choice but you have to decide between water-based or oil-based. The oil-based is self-sealing if you thin the first coat 10-15% then sand ligtly and apply one or two finish coats. This will darken the cedar and make it slightly more golden in colour. The water-based poly is more clear and won't change the colour of the wood as much but raises the grain. The best procedure is to dampen the wood with a sponge, let dry then sand very lightly with 220 grit. Then apply your coats with a light sanding after the first coat.
