Been a while since I've posted but still check in on a regular basis.
I've been bitten by the turning bug, pens so far, have been selling them with good luck.
THere are afr too many EXCELLENT bowl turners out there for me to compete with.
I have been looking for something like a Beall collet chuck that firs my budget as well as my Jet mini lathe.(MT2 or 1x8tpi)
Does anyone have a source for a similar set up that is more affordable than the Beall?

Hi Eagle,

I looked at teh Beal and almost bought it. I ended up buying the Axeminister collet from Craft Supplies USA. The one thing that sold me on it was the shape of the collet, I can get to the back of the piece I am turning and the heavy shoulder on the Beal would not let me do that...take a look at Craft Supplies USA.

I know that pen's are a real addiction, I turn them too, I love the kits from Lee Valley and Craft Supply. I but most of my high end blanks from Bill at ArizonaSihllouette.

Take care,
Jim

Thanks to the excellent advice I received here last year I bought a Oneway chuck and use it a lot of the time. However, I turn a lot of minature 1/12 scale stuff for my wife and find when I replace it in the chuck it may be off a bit.
For Christmas I bought the Lee Valley collet chuck and set of collets. Sweet. I turn the wood (or corian) to a 3/4" diameter or smaller sizes and then mount it in the chuck. I can have a number on the go in various stages of finishing and replace them with no runout. Odd size pieces or short pieces I glue on the end of dowels with polyurethane glue. I can mount a piece, fine sand it, put on tung oil or wipe on poly (first heard about here) take it out in about two minutes. Some pieces have a number of coats and every time I put them back in they are dead on. When I master digital photography I will put some photos here.
Hope this helps.
