I came up with a workbench idea similar to the European cabinetmaker's workbench advertised in a popular Canadian catalogue we all love:-) Difference is that my design (finished) cost around $200+ Canadian without the vice. I've already asked Paul Fulcher if he's interested in an article on this. I added a solid oak drawer to it later on (will post a picture on my site) that slides not only in/out in the manner we are all familiar with, but slides laterally left and right so it can be moved for better clamping and access. The top is made to be removed and replaced when worn. I've had mine for 6 months and use it every day. It's still like new. If you are interested I would be happy to write the story with Paul's permission of course! See my web site below should you wish to see it. Look under hobby/shop.

Nice looking bench, Bob. I'm sure a bunch of Paul's loyal readers would love to see an article on building the most important tool in any workshop without spending a fortune. (Hint, hint, Paul.) Me... I've already designed my new bench. I just have to find enough time to build the darned thing...but my better half keeps coming up with all these renovation jobs for me to do first. I think it would be easier to lift up the chimney cap and drag a new house under it. BTW, nice site!

Hi Bob,
You have a very nice site and do excellent work. I am always impressed with talent, dedication, and high work standards - congratulations.
I think a work bench article would be very popular. It's a project that every woodworker should tackle. You have my vote.
Regards,
Danny

Thanks Danny. That's high praise from someone as well known and highly respected as yourself. I've also visited your site and it is absolutely excellent. I have heard many good things about your books as well. I will urge my wife to become a customer when she plays Santa this year :-)

On another note, I plan on putting some more workbench pictures on my site within the next couple of days. This will show the drawer as well. I must say that the original (see current pictures) was put together quite fast; more or less out of an urgent need at that particular time. The bench then evolved with one step leading to the other. I would remake it "professionally" for an article rather than use the original. Thanks again for your input Danny. Keep up the good work of mentoring us all. We all learn and benefit from your high calibre of professionalism.
