View Full Version : Inlay Banding
Does anyone know of a source for 1/8" or 3/16" plain black inlay banding, preferably in 5'+ lengths. I've tried most of the major US mail order stores with no luck.
Thanks

Lee Valley, and it's even on sale.
I have added a link below, my profile at lee valley is in CDN dollars, you may need to change that.
Good Luck

Jake,
I did some checking on a couple of the Cdn websites that I have in my favorites, none sell the plain black banding. To get it in 5ft lengts might also present a challenge. That said it is not impossible to make your own. Buy a 5ft piece of African Blackwood or Ebony and strip off what you need.
When using as an inlay normally all you see is the surface of the banding. Assuming that this is the case, try stripping a piece of Hard Maple to your required dimensions. In my opinion Maple will not blacken enough with aniline dies. Glidden sells a non-grain raising alcohol based black stain, which is supposed to work well to turn it black but with a purplish hue. I recently read an article that stted Indian Ink works best for dieing Maple black.

Wendall
I've seen that banding at Langevin and Forest in Montreal. No web site yet but they do have a toll free # 1 800 889 2060.
