Removing Black Stains out of Red Oak

Hi All,

Looking for some advice to remove black stains out of red oak.
A friend asked if I could repair a split in a solid oak round table top. The table top was also warped. I did what I could to clean up the split and reglue the top, but now I'm trying to refinish the top.. The previous finish was badly cracked + flaking and black stains were left where several plants had been placed.

Am I stuck with the stains????

Nope! Oxalic acid will remove the stains. You may have to spread it over the whole tabletop to even out the colour, but it works really well. Done it lots of times.
