Black wax

Does anybody know if there is such a product as black wax? I want to oil and wax a maple coffee table and the darkest colour I can find is Jacobean (Fiddes & Sons), which is nice but still too brown. I'm looking for a espresso or dark chocolate colour. Found a short reference on the web to adding lampblack to wax to tint it. Would this work? How much will I need. I have some black ivory pigment (it's a powder). Can I use that? There was a thread earlier on this forum about using artists colours to tint wax but there wasn't much detail.

You can get black paste wax for automobiles, and for granite, from the appropriate suppliers. Here's one specifically for furniture, though it's in the U.S. http://www.kingdomrestorations.com/c...tml?catId=5272

It's also known as shoe polish.

Shoe polish (mens, such as Kiwi) is very black and shines well.
Meanwhile, https://www.woodessence.com/Waxes-C21.aspx has (the famous and well proven) Liberon waxes...that come in many colors including black...and they smell a bit nicer than shoe polish in my opinion.

Wood Essence is an excellent place for many useful things incidentally.....and furthermore its a Canadian company.

FWIW Kiwi doesn't recommend using its products on wood furniture; http://www.kiwicare.com/US/FAQ/ Maybe they're being ultra cautious to avoid liability, but I wouldn't like to have to deal with shoe polish stains on light-coloured clothing because of residual wax.

Trewax used to make a dark wax that would darken to some extent..

I have used this wax product in the dark color to touch up furniture and cover scratches...it makes stuff look like new and it may help you too.

Briwax makes an Ebony (but not in their Toluene free variety).

I have used their tinted waxes for many years to "refresh" tired looking furniture and have found them to be excellent products. Just don't put the Toluene based variety on a waterbased finished piece DAMHIKT

Hi, Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I did try Kiwi shoe polish and it was disappointing in that it never seemed to harden. I kept buffing out the swirls until there was nothing left on the surface. Will try with the other products.
