power outages and lighting

the thread on the power gate device got me thinking
how many of us have emergency lighting in our shops?
ie, power goes off or you trip a breaker and the lights go off
particularly important if you have a basement shop or a garage shop and the door is closed, nothing like wondering around in a pitch black shop with powertools winding down

I have an emergency light from CTC in my lathe room which casts a bit of light into the remainder of the shop. I am more concerned about working on the lathe in a lighting loss situation.

Shop lighting should be on its own circuit so nothing can trip it off.

If you are using a tool and the power goes off leaving you in the dark, don't move anything including yourself until everything comes to a stop. Then turn off the power switch if non-magnetic type.

Hi Steve, I have an emergency lighting unit in my shop, and aside from my grinder and drill press, all the other machines have mag starters.

My saw/shaper however loses the electric brake in a power failure, so the emergency light is a good idea............Rod.

i do have battery emerg lighting, wouldnt be without it!!
my lighting is on a seperate breaker, doesnt help of course when the hydro goes off!!
