What is the best product to clean unfinished wood? Will mineral spirits leave a film on it?

removes most residues, flashes off fast and gives a good idea what wood will look like with clear finish, including flaws, sanding marks etc etc; no residue.

I learned the hard way, you might have to as well. laqcuer thinner is a horrible cleaner because its also a solvent, albeit the lacquer thinner evaporates what it dissolves might not.

My lesson cost the "then" boss 10 grand.

you can get a wood bleach at almost any marine supplyer it will clean almost all wood of stains but not paint or varnish's rick in addison

that stuff is lethal, but sure works well for painting oily wood,

Cleaning plastic laminate with lacquer thinner. Big commercial job and the contact cement was cleaned off with thinner, the only thing it did was melt it leaving a thin film over everything. In the end the whole job had to be done again.

Seen the same thing with wood, .......never again, I leave it for what is supposed to be used for.............thinning lacquer.
