Connor, red cedar, if you pick through the pile you can find some nice contrasting colours from creamy white to chocolate. I made some chairs and a small table last year that I finished with 3-4 coats of Helmsman finish, by MinWax and it really brought out the beauty of the wood . I can't say how long it will stay that way, but from previous posts, it seems to depend on your climate. White cedar that is common in the east is said to be even more durable....but it lacks the colour the red has.

Red cedar and do nothing to it. It will change colour, but it will last forever. If you treat it, stain it, finish it, be prepared to do that year after year.
