Yep, I seen this before, it used to be her man thing, till her husband past away, then she continued to turn the big bowls herself, using the Oland tool of course

I remembered I have made several of them the last fall, though I haven't use them since.
I have now got so many tools from purchasing two sets of lathe. I probably have 70 or more tools, so it is very hard to keep track on them.
I will try using them.

I watched the video again and realized she is Mrs. Oland.
I originally interested in her big bowls and her lathe and I didn't
pay attention to the tool she was using.

I tried the tools I made the last fall today on a pot.
While I was cutting inside of it I had a big catch and the pot
came off the lathe and hit my face shield very hard.

Good thing you had the face-shield on Shikyo, glad you didn't get hurt .

Darrell Feltmate does have a couple of short videos showing how he holds and uses the Oland tool, if you haven't seen them, have a look and notice how and where he holds the tool, it can be a very aggressive tool, you do have to learn how to use it like any turning tool, it does work well for certain cuts, but it is not the best tool for all things like any turning tool.

Thank you Leo for the video site though I somewhat can't watch them.
I again tried to use them, however, I felt them so catchy.
I tried use them to turn an 8" deep pot. It was very difficult to control since fair amount of the tool end was out from the tool rest.
The shaft diameter are 1/2" and made of tool rods. I think one of reasons is a little too skinny.
I finished it with the Don Pencil tools although the pot became much shallower since I had to remove the damaged part which
was because of flying. The Don Pencil tools are very easy to use.

How could I sharpen those Don Pencil tool's cutter tips? I am afraid of using my regular grinder since I think it might takes too much metal from the tips.

I'm not sure I'm ready to try that kind of coring tool, yet!
Also, I don't think I'd be self-confident enough to routinely stick my hand between the rest and the rotating piece like she does (even with the relatively small bowls I usually turn).
