In my wood shop today (video)

I just made a couple quick videos of what I'm working on. Which is a pair of rocking chairs made from Canadian black walnut. One highlighted with zebra wood the other with old growth southern yellow pine.

These are my first 2 vids I've made where I actually talk and move around, so please enjoy but go easy on me.... (-:

Really enjoyed the resawing walnut video as well and "Tool" for music choice.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished rockers. They look great to this point.

the video post is an avenue that im starting to use as well, i plan on some videos of the old beavers at work and some rebuild and setup techniques, these days its easy and you get a decent video even with a cheapie point and shoot at least outside with lots of sunlight!!

Thanks all for the comments, glad to hear people enjoy seeing vids like this that's the reason I make them. I work by my self most of the time so it's really nice to be able to share my work with such a great group of people on this forum.

I originally bought templates, video and instruction book from Hal Taylor. I've added my own style along the way and also my own way of making the rocker and back brace lamination's, I use a band saw instead of a table saw this way I can keep the grain match on the front and rear lamination's much closer. Also use less material!

I spend a lot of time looking at all available rocking chair web sites and pictures and notice many people using the same plans but I don't feel most have added there own to the chair. In my case I like everything much softer and round because with the sharp edges a chair is more a work of art the useful I like to lean towards the utility of the chair and have made adjustments as recommended by people who own these chairs. When sculpting there is a fine line that you must sneak up on to achieve the smooth and fair transtions with out leaving it too chunky or too lean.

My biggest change is that I swoop the head rest down and have extended the legs by 3'' that flow through the headrest. Much more like Sam Maloof did in the past. I try to learn from my idles Sam of course, Hal Taylor and Scott Morrison I take in all the different styles and techniques try them, adjust them to get to a point that I feel is the best chair I can produce. Also the techniques apply to all other chairs and table that I've designed.
