I use a Bosch Colt so my jig doesn't have to be very wide -- 3" is all that is needed.

This Craftsman router a friend lent me has a 6" wide base and I'll want more than 1/2 of the base on the jig before the router hits the wood so I am thinking at least 4" or maybe more. I'll practise on a test piece first to see what minimum width seems right. What do you think?
