Default Re: Laptop advice

i have a 17" Toshiba at home, and at work I use a 15" Toshiba. I like my 3 yr old 17" toshiba a bit better just because the keyboard is full size, or so close to full size that my fingers can't tell.....

I just bought a battery for my home 17" Toshiba from batterybuyer dot com, the price was good, the unexpected delay in shipping not so much. With the new, extended capacity battery, I'll probably be happy with this laptop still for another 18-24months.....

All the laptops at the big box stores have come down significantly in price.... it's crazy. My laptop buying history just for laughs....

1992 - 386sx - $2000
circa 2001 - AMD Athlon laptop 14' screen - $1800+tax
2006? - Toshiba 17" Duo-Core ~ $1300 + tax.....

Future laptop? Probably sub $800

But I digress.
Who said the truth will set you free! You know I would have mentioned the Mac Book Pro or even an iBook but I have been accused - unfairly I think - of promoting the cult of Mac here so I passed up the opportunity to pour young Mike a nice refreshing glass of Steve Jobs brand koolaid.

Macbooks are just crazy expensive. To get one with a 15.4" screen you're looking at $1600 and up. Compare that to $500 to $800 for a non-mac. That's a pretty serious difference, eh?

I just bought my wife an HP at Future Shop for $700. It has a 15 inch monitor, which is plenty big to watch movies when it is next to you. Plenty good for surfing too. I also bought a wireless mouse for it also. The navigation with the touchpad is terrible to get used to when you been using a mouse a long time.

Ah yes, I love a good novel based on a true story.
