Hmmmmmmmm now this discussion has made an interesting turn

I never have had water damage in my kitchen, so I guess I am fortunate, however......

I have recently ( about one year ago) bought a new fridge with an ice maker ! And I am very satisfied with it. So now I read that it is just a matter of time before a potential water problem ? Yikes ! So I guess that will be the kickoff time for my kitchen reno ? Boy O Boy, can't even blame the rotten plumber as I did the install myself !!

You bet! I've been through all these 'holes'! It got me adding in a simple clause on my quotations that any plumbing that should be done in and around my cabinets must be done in our presence or else I don't take responsibility for the state of the caninets. That sounds 'waterproof' on paper but in practice you still always have drama.

If, like Astrowood, you can do the lot yourself you won't have problems. But in an environment where each subcontractor comes and does his bit and doesn't give a hoot about the other's work it's always a recipe for disaster. Here in SA these kind of jobs are done in the same style as crimes are committed: Hit and run. Get the job, hit it in, grab the money and run.
