Looks great Alexander. Nice to see some progress. A littl hard on my neck tho, as all the pictures are sideways!
How are you cutting the grooves? Just with a router, guide and stop blocks, and then squaring up the corners after?

Keep the updates coming!

Ryan

Almost as you describe Ryan. I use a guide bush on my router and make jigs.

Long live Sketch-up! There's a neat little function in the program's editing section called "intersect". If you know how to use it it's a powerfull tool specially for these compound mitre cuts. I was hesitant to trust the measurements but this backrest has a cutting angle of 3.5 deg and a blade tilt of 14.5 deg. This was measured from the program and directly applied to the backrest. After the angles were cut I cut the two curves on the bandsaw.

Basically you can bring together any two shapes that you've drawn, in this case the backrest (which I drew longer than needed) and backlegs. You then ungroup them and "intersect" them. The program then calculates the common planes and lines which is then basically the joint lines and angles.
