Default Steel Slotted Flat head wood screws?

This must sound unusual but I'm trying to find steel slot & flat head wood screws. Screw sizes required are #4, #6 & #8 from 1/2", 5/8",3/4" & 1.0" long and with a shank.
I repair, rebuild and refinish Persimmon wood golf clubs and recently started working on a few clubs from the 20's & 30's. Some of these wood screws require replacement from rust alone. Does anyone in Canada manufacture these anymore? If not, anyone in the USA or the U.K. make them?

Try Fastenal, they have plenty of stores in Ontario, the closest to you is

94 Dunkirk Rd. Units 9&10
Saint Catharines, ON L2P-3H4
P: (905)984-6965
F: (905)984-6590

Here's what a search for stainless steel slotted wood screws gives:

By chance, I got a jar of assorted galvanized screw from Princess Auto for $6. It's been very handy for me but it was some time ago. Try to go there. You'll never know what you can pick up.

I have just returned from the Fastenal here in St. Catharines. According to the employee who tried to take the order, because of an "anti-dumping law", these screws can no longer be shipped into Canada. This law has been in effect for the last 6 months.
What I thought unusual about this situation was that these wood screws are no longer in demand or in use by Canadian Industry and haven't been used in Canadian Industry for 25 years so who has been dumping these screws in Canada in the last 25 years? I wouldn't mind a "shovel full from a dump of these wood screws"!?
Thanks for suggestion though.

This is BS, I would call a different store to confirm. Maybe the clerk was too lazy to bother with a small order (they're used to large business orders).

Otherwise you might try to call these folks, they have shop in St. Catharines too:

Duh:

Actually you can import them in Canada, provided that you pay up to 170% duty taxes. I guess the yankees are happily importing them w/o extra taxes, so Fastenal would have to add up to 170% to the price when moving them across the border.

Time for a drive to Buffalo

Nice times are we living, having to smuggle woodscrews now? Man, in the past that was booze, cigs and w**d business!!!!! What's next, carpenter's glue?

You can buy galvanized or chrome plated screws and burn the coating off with a torch....or visit one of the muzzleloading parts suppliers in the US like Track of the Wolf or Muzzleloaders Builders Supply. They both stock all sizes of slotted steel screws at reasonable prices.

Geez.... I went to several local stores and phoned a few as well that provide specialty nuts, bolts and screws. No one could help but all understood. I tried eBay.ca yesterday evening and to my surprise found 14 types of the plain steel slot flat head wood screws I was looking for and a few other screws(brass slot flat head) that I can use too! They all came in boxes of 100 pieces. Most of the screw types had one day remaining on their listing and were at a "very small" but reduced price. If and when I receive them, I will post a follow-up to this quick reply and the original post. Thanks again for all the suggestions - Mr. Blair M. Phillips

Thanks for the offer but please read my "quick reply" to my original thread. We travelled to Lee Valley on friday to look for a book about "Wooding Finishes". They have two but both didn't go into the "technical detail" I require to gain the understanding. Can you recomend a book?

I buy mine from Fastenal. I do a lot of Wood repair on Model T Fords etc. And these guys all have slotted flatheads and oval heads , steel and brass. BUT the new ones are Forged and not machined so the top of the screw is rounded over w/o the crisp sharp edge around the head. I usually screw the screws into a piece of wood (just slightly proud of the surface) and then file the tops down to a clean machined look. Only takes a few minutes to do several screws to provide a great vintage look.
