  • Bosch door hinge template

I am a bugger for punishment ! I bought a used Bosch door hinge template to help hang about 10 solid doors in our new house . When I asked about guides and cutters the guy said any would work . Well mine don't !
I guess my problem is which guide and cutter to buy . The guide from Bosch is no longer available . If anyone uses this jig can you tell what cutters and guides you use ?

    Thanks.

Bosch lists several parts - are you referring to the defacto 1 3/8" guide bushing set http://www.boschtools.com/Products/T...spx?pid=RA1125 - is that what you mean by "guides and cutters?" See also Bosch reference to other manuf. Part numbers will help. Thx

When you buy the jig a template guide and cutter are included . When I contacted Bosch they said that they have no stock or replacement parts for the jig , so here I am looking for something that might work.

What is the size of the space on the jig? There should be a standard bit/template guide combo that will work. I saw a review on a Bosch hinge template that said any router with a 5/8" collar and 1/2" bit will work. If the jig space is 4 5/8", then the 5/8 and 1/2 bit combo will work (for a 4 1/2" hinge)

My Makita router base is too big and hits some adjustment screws and my Craftsman guides are too short . I was hoping that someone knew the combination to help me out . I have a 5/8 guide guide for my Makita but the base is to big .

I've had the Bosch Jig [if it's this one; http://www.amazon.ca/Bosch-83038-Del.../dp/B0000224KW ] for years and years. All you need is a deeper than normal guide bushing and any properly sized router bit will work with it. They are easily found at tool stores.

At work my boss has the carey jig, now from LV. The bosch looks like it's the same idea, yes? With the carey jig, you can use just any router bit with a bearing guide, and just ride the bearing around the inside of the template. Can the bosch not work in the same way? What am I missing?

Lee valley has had that one or something very similar for years. Porter cable made a good one too.

What you're missing is deeper. The Bosch guide requires a deeper guide bushing. The PC one does not. Don't know about the LV one. Then don't forget you need the right amount of offset between the guide and the cutter and some hinges have a couple of different radii on the corners. That negates the use of just any router bit!

That is the problem , the 5/8guide works but the router base is too big . I am going to put in an order to LV tomorrow so that should do it . Will still have to work something out ( router base ) but will get 'er .

if you read the LV description, they note that it was formerly made by the carey company, but now that company has gone bankrupt. To keep the jig on the market, LV bought the plans and production jigs and now manufactures it themselves. That's what I meant by "now from LV." Not that it is only just now being carried by them, but that it is now manufactured by them, and not by the carey company.
