Trying to go electric on all the small stuff for this very reason... I just have car and wife's suv... electric lawn mower, electric weed whacker.

Re: How many engines do you have?

            2 Subarus
            1 diesel tractor
            2 chainsaws
            1 weed whacker
            1 lawn tractor

That's about it...the tractor drives some stuff that would otherwise have a motor (log splitter, post hole digger, pump). I make a conscious effort to keep the motor count down.

One nice thing with the 2 stroke stuff is if you run good fuel and stabilizer you don't have to change the oil all of the time. Cordless electric are nice but not sure how long the batteries last or become obsolete

Re: How many engines do you have?

Good question! I wouldn't have thought of myself as someone who would own a lot of engines, but let's see:

1 minivan (in the shop as I type...)
                            1 SUV
                            1 riding lawnmower
1 push mower (not working right now...)
1 whipper snipper (also not working...)
                            1 roto-tiller
                            1 snow blower
                            1 chain saw
                            1 Generator

And I think that's it! 9 engines, huh, wouldn't have thought that.

Makes me wish that some sort of small engine class would have been a mandatory core course in highschool. I think a lot of people would assume that engines is a niche course that should be optional only for those interested, but making that list shows me that even your average "non engine" person will, just through the course of ordinary life, probably end up having to be responsible for a surprising number of engines. I didn't learn much about engines growing up. My one grandfather was a mechanic, but he died when I was young. I've picked up a few things here and there, and so I'll usually try to check out most problems on my own before going to the shop, and sometimes I even succeed! I do my own oil changes, brakes, and other basic things on the cars, but overall I'm pretty engine-ignorant. I regret that.
