  • I broke my coffee cup

I have a coffee cut that I have had for 20 years. Got it from a radio station. Well a week or two ago I was cleaning it, from my brew of cup-a-soup (never been coffee in the cup) and I got fumble fingered and dropped it. It just had to land on the handle and it broke in three places. Landed on the carpet covered concrete.

I guess the question is to fix, or not to fix? What type of glue would I use to fix it and trust it again?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

Mine did that about 8 years ago.

Don't know if you can see it in the picture, but that's five (5) separate breaks in one little handle. mrs. callee said it was useless and that no glue could hold that many breaks together strong enough to be trusted.

But 8 years later, it's still holding strong. It even goes through the dishwasher.

      The glue?

If the pieces fit tightly together, with no gaps or chips, regular old crazy glue will work.

You gotta fix it. Now it would have 'character' and all would know how cherished that cup is to you.

I've got a favourite cup I've had for 30 years that I bought when I was first living on my own, and I actually think often how ticked I'd be if it were to break. I even wrote on the bottom of it a while back with a Sharpie "Kevin's Mug" so my butterfingers wife would stop using it.

My wife responded by doing the same to another mug that was bought the same time that is essentially a sister mug to my aforementioned favourite mug writing "Suzie's Mug".

Last week, my nine year old Sharpied a mug for himself. Now that was cute I thought.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. As I am on vacation this week, it likely won't get fixed this week. Lee Valley and Busy Bee which sell the Gorilla product is too far to drive this week from home so I will wait till I get back to work. Then Lee Valley is just down over the hill from the office in Halifax. Busy Bee is in Dartmouth. Hard pressed I can do the Busy Bee run in about an hour, LOL. Sounds like Rotten Ronnies (MacDonald's) for lunch that day

            Thanks

You can also buy Gorilla Glue from HD and CT. A 5 minut epoxy in a double barrel syringe will also work. Or you can go the JB Weld route. It's like Franks Red Hot. "I put that s#*@ on everything" or do like I do. Toss it and find a new favorite one.

I'd go with epoxy. Gorilla glue may be messy. You can get 5 minute epoxy at CT or any hardware store in little tubes.

It's just a mug, throw it out and find a new favourite. Change is good! Sure, glue will likely work but if that thing breaks while full of hot tea someone will get burned.

Agreed. A friend of mine got seriously scalded in his lap when the handle gave way. Ended up having grafts. Don't repair it. Turn it into a pencil holder.

Make yourself a wooden one. Finish it with epoxy. I made several and gave one to my son who works in a office in Calgary. A co-worker picked it up and said:

"Its amazing how they make plastic look like wood."

I don't think I'd drink hot liquid that's been in contact with epoxy...........Rod.

                          Me neither.

Do they make food safe epoxy?

From the WEST system site: As epoxy cures, the chemical ingredients react to form a non-hazardous solid.
