I just received another Veritas hand plane for Christmas; the small shoulder plane with PM-V11 iron (now my second PM-V11 iron!) completing the set of three: medium. large and small in the order that I got them. Does that count as a gloat?? Of course, in the way of things, I could have used the small for an earring box Christmas gift project for my daughter; late to the party this year but I am happy to have it all the same.

Anyone else care to share their Christmas hand tools?

None for me, yet, but I won a $100 Lee Valley gift card at work, and another $100 from my in laws for my birthday, so the wheels are turning.
I picked up their low angle jointer on cyber Monday, though, so I'm mostly satiated for a little while.

I got a MK-II sharpening jig, a set of saw files and a Veritas apron so I am having fun sharpening things currently!

Using the pocket plane to massage the profiles on the Painting frame I'm working on currently.
Fits the palm of your hand really nicely.
        Have a great weekend.

          Re: Veritas Triplets

          I was lucky to get a #5-1/4w.

When I opened the package I have to admit I wasn't too excited as I had previously made the decision to stick with a collection bevel up planes. The BUs are far more simple and I was getting what I thought were pretty good results with them. (namely a LAJ and a smoother)

Turns out this #5 puts my BU planes to shame. I went right over a knot in a piece of pine with all of my planes and get bad tearout on each one. Except the #5. Used that one last, and cleaned up all the tearout from the previous attempts. It went over the knot like it was completely clear stock. I couldn't believe it. It has a decent weight and feels great in the hand too. Colour me surprised.

I might post a stand-alone post about this in the hand tools section for commentary. Great christmas gift again this year!

ps: also got a Veritas cabinet scraper which I still haven't played with too much yet.
