I had someone ask me if I could turn a small box and a set of coasters to go inside.
This is to be a repro of a Medieval piece as seen in several museum collections, like this https://collections.mfa.org/objects/272352
Well, I could turn it, but I thought carving it would be more interesting.
And I could leave tool marks that would tell a story to anyone who could read them.
This was fun and interesting, but I did use the bandsaur for roughing out the stock.

Nice project. Are you going to coat the coasters in something water resistant to keep them from warping when a wet cup is placed on them? They look great.

These are not coasters in the modern sense. I made these for a lady in the SCA. She is going to paint the coasters, one side plain and the other side will have a quote or verse on it. In medieval times these would be face down with a sweet on them. After eating the sweet you turn the coaster over and use the quote as a conversation point with your companions.
