  • Almost finshed bench and verry messy shop tour

    Hey everyone
well i stared this project at the end of August it is still not quit done but I just couldn't wait to share it. The finishing touches are to scrape the entire thing I think iam going to put the$9.99 out there and try out that bronco scraper. Also I have 1/4in thick oak that is going to frame all the drawer fronts and they will be about 3/16ths proud of the front with a nice bull nose edge and mitered all the way around. And also to finish my tail vice. Well this job was made out of a lot of different things such as old stair runners oak 1.5x1.5 off cuts from a friend old pews that were in his basement for years and as well as a 3' 4'-21/4 maple slab from an old school workshop. The drawer cabints are made up from mdf and 3/4 plywood as well as the drawers them self with some oak plywood as fronts. 3''3'' oak legs mortised and tenon together.there are about 3 sheets of construction grade plywood 1 sheets or mdf 2 sheets of 1/4 mdf for the drawer bottoms and a hell of alot of oak and maple needless to say it ways about 1000 pounds with all the tools my and by buddy could not move it.

Let me know what you think . Iam olny 18 and I plain on working on this bench foe a while
    Thanks Adam Thorpe Pickering

Just what one wants. I don't thing much will move it.
I'm sure it will give you many years of service.

Congats on getting very close to getting it done.
Any ideas on what finish you are going to use on it?

Thank for giving us a look see.
I wish I got serious about wood working when I was eighteen.
        Good for you...

              Adam

My bench is finished with BLO cut with turpentine to a 50/50 mixture.
To maintain the finish all I do is add another coat from time to time.

Not very messy, well anyway not as messy as some other shops I have seen here. Great bench by the way. I am sure once finished, it will be a state of the art bench. Congrats

Hey bench looks like it's coming along great. I recommend some oil (tung sounds fine, I used something called antique oil because it's what I had) followed by some paste wax, people say it helps prevent glue from bonding to the surface and it really does. It just lifts right off on my bench.

Pics of my bench are around here somewhere. I made mine with Red Oak purchased off Kijiji cheap and maple drawers.
