  • Band saw fence rails position

The rails for the fence on my band saw stick out on the right. I am constantly walking into those suckers, and it hurts my fore arm like mad! Is there any reason I can't flip them around so that the rail sticks in towards the throat? Does anyone see any problems with doing that?

    Thanks!

Doesn't look like it would be hard to do and undo if it caused a problem. My first inclination would be to cut them but that's obviously harder to undo. If it doesn't work you could stick a couple of tennis balls on the ends to limit the damage if you run into them, used that trick on a roof rack used for carrying our canoe years ago that was a head banger.

        Maybe they were installed incorrectly?

I'm pretty sure they were installed backwards. You need more room for the fence locking mecanism towards the saw.
