  • Lathe Question

I am looking for a used lathe and found one for sale. It is a Busy Bee B424 copy lathe. They are asking $250. The copy part are there but no cutter blade. Is that a good price and worth getting?

just 2 speeds too high and higher, strictly a spindle lathe and a cheaply build one, bend sheet metal frame and flimsy everything else.

There is this one for $350--, a hell of a lot better lathe, though I do not know if there is something wrong with it, if not, then it is a very good deal.

Compare with this same lathe with everything you need to start turning.

I am with Leo; turn your back on that thing and hurry away! There are decent beginner lathes out there in the wild and wide; that is not one of them.

        Re: Lathe Question

Ok thanks for the advice. I am looking for a lathe to make baseball bats. There isn’t much available here in New Brunswick. I have looked into getting a new King Canada lathe KWL-1016C with a bed extension. Just found a kijiji ad that’s about an hour away for a King Canada lathe for $550. No picture, but description says 60” cast iron wood lathe. I have asked for a picture.

              Re: Lathe Question

This Mini lathe is good for Pens and shaving brushes bottle stoppers etc, it is underpowered for larger things like Baseball bats IMO.

It jumps in rpm from 480 to 1270 that is pretty fast for anything but small and thin spindle like turning, and only ½ hp, you could have some fun, but it sure has to be small and light what you turn.

You sure do not have much of a choice if I look at New Brunswick KIJIJI, up in Toronto there are choices, like there is this lathe that would be just what you need and for $400--, if you could get that over to you, even spend a hundred or two, it would be a fine lathe, sorry I can’t help you.
