You know, I didn't even notice a finger was missing the first time I looked at the ad. Strange how your brain fills in visual spaces it expects to be there. Anyway, I'm not affiliated with SawStop in any way but I did get this e-mail from a local equipment distributor today, just thought I would pass along the info for what it's worth. If your product is selling well it doesn't really make sense to me that you would encourage customers to buy up a ton before your prices go up, but that's just me.

Lee Valley does it as well. it makes sense in people who are sitting on the fence deciding if to buy, then the threat of a price increase will tip them to spend the cash and buy now, rather than wait sometimes indefinitely. They are not loosing money in the process.

        Re: SawStop Price Increase

I bought my SawStop two months ago and just finally got the fence yesterday. I got pretty much everything I need for it in the original deal so I'm not concerned over the increase.

One wounders if the increase is to cover the rash of RPM censer failures and the new brakes for these saws that have miss fired?

I know some people swear by them...

Me... I just see a 6% increase on an already overpriced saw.

That's just my two cents... Ymmv

I wasn't aware that they had a rash of failures.
              Interesting.

              Thanks Jack.

I could care less about the price increase as I will never be able to afford one, but what surprises me about the ad above, They have only sold 30,000 cabinet saws in north America? That number seems low for the amount of chatter about them on the internet. They have been selling since about 2005, so 9 years, that puts them at less than 3500 saws a year. Not really high volume.

Technically since 2006 I think. How many saws other manufacturers sell? AFAIK it is the #1 selling saws at retailers. Just ask a few tool stores.

using sales figures as a guild to the quality of a saw has never been a good indicator. Take the UNI as an eg. It will be a long time before saw stop will even come close. in sales figures that is.LOL

Jack, I didn't talk about quality of the saw, just that the number of sales isn't low w.r.t. other brands based on what I have heard/read from retailers.
Quality of the saw is another topic of its own.
