Welcome to the Upgraded Canadian Woodworking Forum
We have upgraded the Forum to the latest version of vBulletin - version 5.2. While the appearance of the Forum has changed somewhat, the process of viewing and posting remains pretty well the same.
We ask for your patience, as there may be some glitches over the coming weeks as we fine tune the site and add new modules.
I had problems with getting the paint smooth with a consistent surface rather than somewhat blotchy with roller marks. This was with good paint probably Benjamin Moore IIRC. Adding Floetrol to the paint solved the problem.
If you are intending to spray the finish/paint, make sure the viscosity matches what the spray gun manufacturer recommends for their equipment. Floetrol is a "retarder" not a "thinner", it lowers the viscosity without affecting the solids content and allows more time before the finish/paint starts to cure, which means you are more likely to get sags and runs on vertical surfaces, especially corners.
Practice, practice, practice, samples, samples..........you get the drift?
I'm just getting in to spraying.........Floetrol works really well. I was surprised at the difference. Anyway, does anybody know if I can store the unused paint that has the floetrol already mixed into it? If so, for how long?
According to the Earlex dealer i talked to at the hamilton wood show , floetrol is going to be hard to find because it does not meet the new voc regulations but paint companys are making new products that are similar that meet the new standards. I always thin down with water i works just as good and is cheaper. I have a good friend that works in the industry and told me not to waste my money i have used differnt products and water works just as good
