  • help needed. Is it possible to repair varnish chip out.

Hi all. first post here and I'm hoping for some well appreciated advice. Messed up a job on a customers boat today. Not a specialized wood worker but a hobbyist at home building a small row boat. Anyway, was setting in a door catch to sit close to flush with the door jam. Perhaps a little ambitious given the jam was high gloss poly... or varnish? Not entirely sure. Was having great success with a marking knife to cut the notch area first. Nice clean edges. Probably picked up the chisel a little too soon. Rested the bevel in the groove I cut with the knife. Tapped a little too hard on the chisel and busted out a chip below my working area. Would love to fix this tomorrow before I have to admit it to a potentially angry customer. The chip wasn't salvageable unfortunately.
