Table Saw Arbor bolt thread

  • Table Saw Arbor bolt thread

    hey guys, I need your advice on my table saw arbor that got damaged while I removed the bearings. the first two or thread threads were stripped and not quite sure what to do, \
    option 1 order a new arbor,
    option # 2 rethread it with a die ?
    any suggestion would be helpful,

    Is tis a bolt or female threads in an arbor?? What kind of a saw is it?

            Yup, failing that you find another arbor, that could be cleaned up with a good file and a bit of patience. It won't be a fast job, but I've cleaned up worse on power equipment when the parts were NLA.

                You may have a hard time finding a thread file for a square or even acme thread. A rifler will work but not fast.

                  I would use whatever good quality triangular file you can get. The threads right at the the end are not really that critical unless you plan on using a dado set.

                  EDIT : the end looks a bit mushroomed. You may have to sacrifice a bit of the thread face to get a nut to spin on.

                    A good heavy champer may do the trick,please,don't hammer on the ends of threads.
                    John is correct with his statement about dates,if the nut is beyond the damaged when tightened,it is irrelivent

                      Hi Al, thanks for your comment any suggesion is very helpful, as a beginner in this hobby i appreciate it very much. Seems like I learned the hard way about hammering on the end of a thread

                          Dremel tool would work well

                            You could file a chamfer on the arbor. This way it will be easier to thread the nut on the shaft.
