  • Wondering what type of wood my tables are before I refinish

Hi all. I’m new to this hobby and love it. I’m wondering on these tables the wood type? Mostly I have worked with maple so far

That is my first line of thought as well. Some type of mahogany.

From the slightly darker brown "ribbons" and grain pattern it looks like commercial mahogany veneer widely used in desks, tables, credenzas, bookcases etc etc. I have refinished many, many pieces that look just like that when the old finish and stain are removed.
How are you proposing to refinish it? Mahogany is a beautiful wood that takes dyes and stains really well and can offer up some really nice internal textures/chattoyance.
Are you aware of the potential for entrapment of air bubbles in the grain and subsequent "pimples" that can erupt? There was a thread on that problem recently.
