    Dont see too much of this stuff!!

    A work in progress, 11 inches diameter, 5 inches high

    plenty of burl figure, plenty of spalting, even some soft spots that are being saturated in epoxy as i go

    nice find. you must have used a slow speed and experienced a lot of bark flying to get that to a good turning state state.

      300 rpm and yes there was some bark flying!! i did flatten the "top" first and cut it round

        Looks nice so far Steve; red oak burl is not something that I have seen a lot of. A nice find and another interesting turning project. Thanks for sharing it with us.

          And the finished product. i had to saturate a couple of punky spots in epoxy and fixed a couple of crack in the rim
          11 inch diameter, 5 tall, tung oil finish
