  • Beginner turning - questions/advice

I've heard a lot about folks turning green material to a rough size and finishing it when it has dried.
What kind of warpage can be generally expected? Is warpage moisture, species, or luck dependent?

I turned these two little boxes (jars I guess, since they're round??) out of some three-week-old green green ash. Note they're turned out of the middle of a log; the centre shows on both the bottom and the lid. Can I expect these to split (the walls are about 1/4" thick)?

Also I'd be open to any quick suggestions regarding doing this type of turning (green material, turning firewood, etc)

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Use the search feature on this site for drying bowls as Leo Van Der Loo has posted some great advice on this subject.

Read through this post for starters.
