Last spring I started piercing a thin boxelder vase according to the vision in my head of a relatively minor pierced area. The result didn't look anything like my vision.

You can't erase bad piercings and I didn't want to put it into the firewood box so I set it aside.

This year I came up with the idea of cutting out the bad parts and making a spiral piercing. Worked out not too bad.

I don't have a hollowing system so I had to make the thin vase in two sections, which was rather ticklish. I cleaned up the join as best I could but it's still visible on the inside. Other than that I'm happy with it.

I'm posting several pictures because it looks quite different from every direction.

Wow! Now that is right up my ally! Amazing piece. It must have taken a long time to do all the carving.

Well done Art, there's nothing wrong with it in my eyes. We have to start somewhere and this is a beautiful beginning.

I would also like to know what tools were used for the carving.

You should be very proud of that piece of work. I don't know if I would ever have the patience to do a pierced piece like that and I think the overall design is great.

Spectacular. If this is "not too bad" I would be scared to see "good" it might melt my brain.
