  • Please Recommend me a Lid Stay

I could swear I've posted this before, but now I can't find it.

I'm hoping someone can recommend me a good lid stay for a storage bench. † †

Preferably from richelieu, since I'll be ordering from there anyway.

    The lid is 60" x 20", so it's a good size, but it's only 3/4" poplar, so it's not that heavy. † it's attached with a hinge.

It seems every time I've had a project that needed a Lid stay, which ever one I've tried that time proved to be finicky and awkward. † †

Does anyone have a go-to stay that really works well for them?

    Thanks!

Maybe ask them for what they recomend. † †Or go to LeeValley and look at what they have to offer. † In the end you are the one who will be using it and you are the only one that would know what you need best.

I would probably have a couple of hinges on the wall and a few drop down legs. † Cheap and probably more strurdy than anything you will buy that doesn't go all the way to the ground. † †Especially if you are going to do any hammering on it. † You can go right on top of a leg and really give her. †

Thanks. Sorry, I may have been inaccurate when I described it as a "storage bench" . † Think more like a hope chest, or deacon's bench. † †
      thanks!

I'm using these for a storage bench I"m building. They are available for different weights of lids :https://www.rockler.com/lid-stay-torsion-hinge-lid-support-satin-nickel.

Did you ever consider using a gas strut?

I've used these as well. Very good quality.

I've tried a few different stops on hope, blanket and storage chests.

They all seems a little fussy to install.

This example was the best † ( still finicky to install) from my small experience.

That is the same one I used when I built the kids their corner storage chest thingie. † They work really well. † It's been quite a few years and still work like the day I installed them.
