  • Old Hoover Motor sounds funny, Help !

    110 Volt , I think the centrifugal switch is scrubbing.
    And it starts with a strange noise, any diagnosis ?

    I don't know what you mean by scrubbing but I wonder if there is a short circuit when the start windings are engaged. That would be a real problem when it has to start against a load so will remain energised for longer.

      Sounds like the switch is ticking or not disengaging.
      Can a short be fixed or diagnosed.

        The switch is disengaging, you hear it click in on slow down. If start windings do not cut out the motor will fight it's self when it hits 1200 rpm because they are out of phase. Didn't I see a spark as switch opened early in video? As long as short is not buried in coil it is fixable.
