Default Looking for folding chair support hinge

Greetings! I'm new here, but have been lurking for a few weeks and enjoying the conversations and information sharing. Hopefully someone can help me.

I would like to build some folding director's chairs, similar to what's shown in this picture:

    http://www.wmu.com/userfiles/image/GA/DirectorChair.jpg

The one part I cannot seem to find is the locking support (the folding piece of metal bracing the legs). The closest I have found are lid stays at Lee Valley but these do not quite fit this application.

Does anyone know where I can buy such hardware? I can't believe it would be this hard to find, it seems simple (and common) enough...

    Thanks!

Take a look at www.WWHardware.com I have used them for many supplies over the years and very pleased with both price and promptness of shipping and return.

The one plan I have seen for a folding director's chair called for using the locking lid supports from Rockler:

These may not be much different than the lee valley lid stays, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't fit your application:

Also, a search for "folding leg support" turned up this:

Different versions of "table leg brace" hardware may also work, though they usually have a 90 degree plate to attach to the table underside that would make them incompatible with your design.

Alternately, you could redesign your idea around the current brace and go with something like this :

    Cheers,
    Keith.

Yes, I think that's the plan that I'm working off of. I saw his link to Rockler and I actually went out and bought a set of those lid stays from LV, but I don't really see how this will work as a brace between the scissor-style legs. Those lid stays have that pronounced bend in each piece, and both pieces have the bend going in the same direction. If one of them were flat, and not bent, or if they bent in opposite directions, they'd be great. Worst case I could get out the hacksaw, I suppose...

And the other types of lid stays, as you said, have that pesky 90-degree plate.

AHA! That's exactly what I want. I'll see about placing an order...

Ooooh, those are pretty. Considerably more challenging looking than my simple little director's chair plan (did I mention I'm a neophyte? ) My first (and so far, only) real woodworking project was a Jake's Chair from a plan found on Usenet, and I'm hoping to make these director's chairs as gifts for a few friends.

Thanks guys for the quick responses and for the links! ... now if only they shipped to Canada... ;)
