Default Excluding Forums from New Posts search

I've installed a small program that will allow you to turn off selected forum(s) from the New Posts search.

Its not as elegant as the custom program at Sawmill Creek, but does the trick.

To access it, go into the UserCP>General Settings, and scroll to the bottom where you will find an area that looks like this

    Exclude.JPG

You can pick the forums you'd like not to be displayed on your New Posts listings. Don't forget to save your settings.

Please note: You cannot exclude the Magazine area, the main Woodworking area or the Off Topic area as those are all areas where important announcements often get made.

Selecting any of the others does not exclude them from appearing on the main page of the forum, not does it affect any other searches you may do. This program also does not filter posts if you use the Today's Posts function.

Hope some of you find this of some use, and that you don't miss out on a lot of stuff that may be happening in other areas of the forum.

Ah that's nice, actually better than the one at SMC because once you set it you can forget it. And its a single click not two clicks.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the comments Wayne. I hadn't played with very much with the one at CMS, so didn't realize it wasn't permanent.

Hi Bill do you know if this works with TapTalk? if I set the exclude here does it effect the new postings list when viewing in taptalk?

    thanks

Haven't got a clue Eamon. Hopefully one of the TapaTalk users (Matt, Peter?) will chime in with the answer for you.

And I have to say, that after two months of no longer having to waft around turning posts, the nightmares/headaches/shakes/constipation are no more!!!!!

    (missed this the first time.)
There is another way around the SMC forum. Actually, it probably works for all vbulletin forums.

Build yourself a bookmark that looks something like this:
    Code:
    sawmillcreek.org/search.php?do=getnew&include=3,5,7,40
Every subforum has a number, so "workshops" is #40 at sawmillcreek.
You find that number by visiting each subforum and noting the number listed in your URL. There is probably another way to get the list, by asking the forum admin for instance, but this is an easy DIY way.

So you can just make yourself a book mark that does the equivalent of "new posts" with only the subforums that you want to see, and it now becomes a one-click thing.

The downside/danger is that if they add new subforums, then you won't know it.

You can probably do it with any vbulletin forum. Over here I just stick with the plain vanilla "new posts" and sift manually.
    It's not about you.

I'm even happier now. Since that last posting, they segregated/added the vintage machinery sub-forum which I also have no interest in as well but is also a fairly active subject which was cluttering my "view".

I'm still waiting on a word filter for the New Posts feature... Something that allow me to effectively enter "green+koolaide"

What we really need is a way to ignore threads. I can ignore people and forums but not threads. Thanx to the moderation here I have no need to ignore people and I have only one sub forum in my ignore list but there are all kinds of threads that keep coming up in the "whats new" search that I would like to see go away. AFAIK there is no option available that does that.

What is the difference between "new" and "today's" posts? The volume of posts is so small on this forum that it is easy to skim through todays posts. I personally could care less what sub forum it is in, I just wish people could use meaningful titles when they start a thread.
